Crush Camp offers wine novices and aficionados two days and two nights of grape harvesting, crushing and blending – the full winemaker’s experience. If you are a wine lover, a foodie, a travel buff, or just love to try new experiences - come "camping" with us.

Throughout the weekend Campers will:

  • Visit Moon Mountain for a sunset “Meet & Greet” reception, a truck ride through the scenic vineyards and a tailgate tasting. We discuss mountain grape growing and the soil and microclimate conditions that influence viticulture. With luck we’ll watch the moon rise over the vines!
  • Receive a crash course in viticulture and the use of a refractometer only to be let loose to harvest grapes in a pristine Napa vineyard.
  • When the gondola is full of grapes, campers follow their fruit to the crush pit at Sterling Vineyards, where they rake out the grape bins, shovel the stems, sort whole grape clusters and assist with the press. Cellar duties follow as campers manage punch-downs and pump-overs.
  • Campers join Sterling winemakers for lunch in at the winery and a discussion of terroir and sampling of Sterling’s vineyard designate wines.
  • Relax from a hard day’s work in the vineyard by visiting local boutiques for some "retail therapy".
  • On to Beaulieu Vineyard, where it’s time to put newfound knowledge into practice: Campers are challenged to build their ideal wine from selected lots in a wine-blending seminar.
  • Tie on the aprons and fire up the grill! Chef Joey Altman, of TV’s BayCafe, hosts a remarkable dinner at the Rutherford House, our private wine country retreat.
  • Visit Provenance Vineyards, joining winemaker Tom Rinaldi for a continental breakfast, sample and discuss oak trials and the importance of barrel selection, which culminates in the legendary Crush Camp Barrel Rolling Relay for fun and prizes!
  • Campers travel to Acacia Vineyard for a champagne brunch, a discussion of Carneros history and the region’s appeal for Chardonnay and Pinot producers with Matthew Glynn, Winemaker for Acacia.
  • Our vineyard visit concludes with a dramatic presentation by the wine country “air force” –falcons trained for vineyard pest control.
  • Additional trips to wine country artisans such as goat cheese producers, barrel manufacturers and artists’ studios can be recommended. Or visit one of Napa Valley’s excellent spas or hot springs facilities to complete your wine country weekend.
